I spent the weekend in Whitby because it was the regatta and it was very enjoyable the weather was good.

We stayed in a very lovely hotel at the top of Runswick Bay which does excellent job youd find it very hard to find any aspect of the accommodation thats  not good and that includes the food which was excellent. The staffs were also very efficient and helpful particularly a young man called Mark was waiting on the tables in the dining area, always was very polite and cheery and that’s exactly what you want from your staff.

In total contrast the exact opposite came to our attention in one of the cafeteria is very close to the bridge in Whitby. Pauline and myself went in for a meal and I swear the woman who served us would have been every comic’s nightmare sat on the from line. She never smiled make eye contact and she banged the plates down. In fact the whole place was badly run because a group of people came in sat down at a table waited about ten minutes and they had not even been given a menu, so they simply got up and walked out. That table was an empty for at least 15 minutes and that’s a big loss in revenue for the business. We weren’t the only ones to notice this there was a couple of older ladies sat next to us and they continually said do you think we’ll ever see a smile just once!

If you have a business where your staff meet the public it points out how important it is to try and pick people with a cheery disposition are at least a courtesy to try and smile!

Whilst I was in Whitby there was some business involved,  as per usual according to Pauline ! She forgets about word like bills etc and  I was looking at holiday cottages again but this time owned by other people who wanted to put their accommodation with my new Endeavour Whitby Holiday  Cottages Letting Agency. The hardest bit about starting this kind of the business is obviously getting customers but I’ve got that bit sorted out to a degree with my website receiving good volumes of traffic thanks to Google. but the second hardest bit is finding good quality holiday accommodation that you want to represent. Unfortunately the two cottages I went  to see sounded fine until I got there and I’m afraid they just weren’t good enough. I think you’ve got to use a litmus test, if you wouldn’t be willing to stay there yourself of the price they’re wanting  why should you try and get somebody else to stay in them.

I diplomatically pointed out the points I thought were not good enough hoping that they would possibly agree to change things in a more positive fashion but I’m afraid it fell on deaf ears.

My goal is to try and get a small number of quality Whitby Cottages  and other types of holiday accommodation so that I can represent the owners well with good volumes of bookings but also the holidaymakers, by making sure that properties are of a good standard. Anyway I’ll carry on in my search I’m sure over a period of time are find some nice holiday lets.

I’ve taken some HD film of the Whitby Regatta and it will be online probably over the weekend when I’ve got time to edit it and I will be placing links on Whitby Fans on Facebook.

This is my HD film also a small guide to Whitby
