This is the daily blog of Alan Davidson who lives in Whitby North Yorkshire. My main hobby is search engine optimisation.  I live in Bradford and also Whitby. My Whitby Holiday Cottage http://www.endeavourcottage.co.uk/ My CCTV and Security Alarm installation companyhttp://www.adalarms.co.uk/ I am Sir Roger Moore's Web manager, his official site http://www.roger-moore.com/ and at Sir Roger's forum you can ask the man himself a question each month http://www.roger-moore.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi Read more from this author

Unfortunately on the day itself certain key people could not attend like Sir Roger Moore, Johnny Goodman ( business partners and friends of Sir Roger’s ) and Ian Ogilvy the actor who played Simon Templar in the return of The Saint. They and others were stranded in various parts of the globe and could not get back due to the volcanic ash.

There was a Skype video link with Sir Roger Moore and many fine speeches by friends and colleagues of Bob Baker, with numerous stories also about working with Sir Roger.

I was lucky enough to attend and I filmed the entire event and I will make some of this  accessible after confirmation from Gareth, because it was a private event.

The celebration for Bob Baker on 18 April at Pinewood Studios, was a very touching day even though I personally not had the pleasure of knowing Robert S Baker, although I had the pleasure of interviewing him a few years ago.

On arriving the first thing I was told by Gareth Owen, Rogers PA, (who did an excellent job of hosting the event in Roger’s absence) was an unfortunate Sir Roger would not be able attend because of the volcanic ash, he was stuck in Monaco. This was slightly upsetting for me only because I had been waiting for about six months for a small interview with Roger to go alongside met Tony Curtis interview and a he had kindly offered to give me a few minutes after the event, which would be his only interview that day. Over the 10 years I have been the web manager for Sir Roger, along with Marie France, I have  wanted to interview Roger but didn’t ask because unlike Tony Curtis, Roger is not the same kind of extrovert person in real life in my opinion, I didn’t want to push.

So on a purely personal selfish level :-) I was a little upset you know how things go you get prepared and get excited and then find out that it’s not going to happen. I had prepared some questions which were unique I think, but I soon got over that and one of my main aims was to try to film the event if I was allowed, so that I could pay my own personal homage to Bob Baker and the pleasure it gives me as a child through The Persuaders and to thank Sir Roger.

Gareth said it would be good to film it and Sir Roger would like to see the film so I position myself at the back of the great hall in Pinewood Studios and then conducted the best film representation that I could do as a mere amateur. The results look reasonably good and I was pleased,  I even managed to slip in three interviews with Valerie Leon, who appeared in one of my favourite episodes of The Persuaders, as the “soap queen”. Roger is well known for its practical jokes on set (with Valerie there was a scene where she was telling Roger off and he planted the most enormous kiss on her lips which surprised the obviously and it was used, Valerie laughed about this off-camera and express how much she had enjoyed it :-)

Also interviews with Sue Lloyd most well known for The Baron and Annette Andre most known for her role in Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) , both beautiful ladies that had also appeared in The Persuaders, who both had plenty to say about Bob Baker and Sir Roger.

Unfortunately the following day when I was driving back to Whitby I suddenly felt a little down and I couldn’t quite work it out?  I was thinking what’s wrong with me, am I just tired ? No I’ve got some kind of virus and I’m currently sweating with a pounding head, so you will have to excuse the quality of this blog entry.

But t you can rest assured that their soon as I can get the energy and my head stops bouncing, I will put the film of approved material ( it was a private event in reality) regarding the celebration of Robert S “Bob” Baker with  stories about Sir Roger Moore from his friends and colleagues.

Good article considering you also seem to have the head pounding and full of ideas thing going on. I havent been able to shake a headache (or lots of ideas which I am not complaining about), headache since saturday ideas for 2-3 months sold (rather than going through spurts of lots of ideas at regular intervals…I am sure you know what I mean.

The blog seems to have given you an opportunity to push on with some new interesting ventures. At the moment I am re-vamping everything to catch up with what I have planned, but as you know, when you have loads of ideas, it is loads of unpaid work that leads to paid work, along side the paid work. So somehow we have to work out how the hell we put all these ideas into place with only 24 hours in a day (possibly explains the headaches).

A blog is probably the best free tool we have at our disposal for free seo, so then working out which way to go about it, what ventures to use what blog for, or even how to balance it is certainly a challenge. My personal blog which I have re-started on my own domain name http://www.richcopley.co.uk/blog is now home to a bit of work and pleasure, I also have an easybiz sites blog now. Sometimes the two cross over, the best solution I have found is simply to duplicate the article for both, but with two different articles totally (no duplication of text). Cos we know what Google things.

Anyway I have gone on for long enough. It sounds like you had an interesting day, and I look forward to seeing the video. Dont you just love technology today, it really has opened a world up for anybody to be alble to film and edit almost anything and also, this is the best bit, publish and share it with anybody who might be interested.

I will bookmark this as I keep having to find it through your facebook.

[...] http://alandavidson.me/2010/04/robert-s-baker-celebrated-at-pinewood-studios-on-18-april-20107/ I suppose some people may think it’s a little strange that a small businessman from Bradford West Yorkshire has got to meet so many celebrities, but life is a strange thing and I haven’t actively gone out to meet them,  it’s just happened. AI am not the kind of person to be a celebrity worshipper, it’s a silly culture we tend to have nowadays. I see them as people doing a good job, which they were lucky to get that just happened to get noticed because of their profession.  [...]
