Sir Roger Moore’s web manager… No I’m not namedropping!
This is my brand-new blog, and I’ve never done personal rant before so bear with me.
Probably most people that accidentally drop onto my blog will not bother to read it, which is fine I understand we are all busy with lots of options in our life.
Of the few that do spend a few moments glancing over my feeble attempts at articles and rambles of my daily existence and memories of my past life there will be probably be even fewer will be interested in the fact that I am the web manager for the actor Sir Roger Moore. But I’m mentioning this not to be a namedropper, but purely for the very tiny tiny minority that ever get to see my blog and could be even slightly interested in this fact, possibly the occasional James Bond fan etc.
In actual fact I’m seriously not impressed by celebrities, they are often overinflated, overpaid and by the nature of their job egotistical. I should know I’ve met quite a lot of this breed, as I will explain in the future… if there’s anyone out there that ever reads it?
Anyway I enjoy being Sir Roger’s web manager because he doesn’t fall into the above category and when I was 13 I loved the program The Persuaders, it was pure escapism. I thought that’s the life for me, beautiful women, fast cars and lots of cash… and then I had to grow up and real-life grabbed me ! Work and bills
Anyway I also like being Sir Roger’s web manager because he is a UNICEF goodwill ambassador, and in a very small way I help UNICEF by showcasing his works for the organisation. You can ask Sir Roger a question each month on his official website and forum here http://www.sirrogermoore.com/ In fact I’ve just put on Sir Rogers six replies on for March 2010 .And to narrow this down even further to an even less likelihood of an interested reader, if you are a Persuaders fan and you ever read this! This is my interview with Roger’s co-star from the program Tony Curtis.

I am enjoying your blog! I spent many holidays as a child in Whitby, and seven years or so ago I worked at Boggle Hole Youth Hostel near Robin Hood’s Bay. The best summer of my life!
Hi Jenni
Thank you for your positive comment about the blog.
Is nice to hear that you also like Whitby and all the beautiful coastline and fishing ports, the one thing that is nice about the areas that it’s old-fashioned it’s like stepping back in time.
I guess that’s why they film the series Heartbeat around that area.
I suggest next time you go to Whitby buy bucket and spade and transport your soft back to childhood…. and ignore the strange looks
Hope to speak again soon all the best Alan
Alan, hello!
Being a big fan of ‘The Persuaders’ myself (in my view, along with ‘The Man Who Haunted Himself’, Sir Rog’s best acting on screen), it’s nice to hear about your love of the show leading on to web managing the website for Sir Roger Moore, as well as promoting UNICEF.
Now, I’m going to be cheeky (as you have a sort of direct hot-line to the man himself) and ask if you could pass on a message about UNICEF?
I’ve recently written and am now producing a sort of Reduced Shakespeare Company style theatre show of every 007 movie. It’s basically 100 years of Fleming in 100 minutes of Movies, from Connery to Craig. We wrote a letter to EON Productions, to make them aware of this production, and all seems okay for the go-ahead. This one-off show will premiere on Saturday 13th November 2010 (for one night only) and we’d like all profits of the production will go to UNICEF. We’ve been granted access to a 550-seater theatre in Cheltenham (our home town), so we’re looking for a big profit to give away. UNICEF are behind us 100% but there’s a snag…
Basically, and we know this is pie in the sky, but we wanted Sir Roger Moore to film a video introduction for our show and asked UNICEF if they could arrange this and they ccouldn’t. We are using multimedia techniques during the show, with some scenes filmed in advance, so there will be a large screen with a back projector for this to be played on.
I did think that, this being a 007 event, it might have been a possibility. We were only looking for a couple of minutes introduction on video from him, to introduce the play to the audience watching.
So, I wondered if you could pass on our plight to Sir Roger? We know we’d get more people coming to see the play and supporting UNICEF if this happened! All we’d need would be 10-minutes access to him, so we could send our own camera crew to any event in the UK that Sir Roger Moore is attending? It would take no longer than 5 minutes to record the smallest of introductions and we’re happy to sign any waver form that permits us only to show this introduction once and once alone at the event. I just think it would be an amazing experience for the audience, all of whom will be 007 fans, to see Sir Roger Moore introducing the performance on the big screen that we’re using as part of the theatrical production.
I’d massively appreciate you putting this idea to Sir Roger Moore, as we’ve specifically picked UNICEF because it’s his charity (and both myself and my co-writer were very touched when reading the UNICEF section in his autobiography: ‘My Word Is My Bond’). We’re hoping to raise £2000 upwards, so it’s no small amount.
I’d appreciate any help, however small, in getting this request to Sir Roger himself.
Thanks, Alan. Keep up the good work on his website!
Best wishes,
BARNABY
